WATKINS GLEN, NY (June 28, 2013) – Canadian driver David Ostella entered his Global Precast Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car in the IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge by Yokohama series this weekend at the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen. It marks his first event this season in the US-based championship. The 21-year-old Maple, Ontario resident is the current points leader in the Ultra 94 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Canada by Michelin series after posting two wins and a podium in the first four races.

Both practice sessions and today’s qualifying round at the 3.4-mile, 11-turn road course occurred in wet and rainy conditions at the historic facility in upstate New York. Ostella was the top qualifier from the Ultra 94 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge by Michelin Series.

DAVID OSTELLA on qualifying – “I think qualifying went really well. We ended up P6 for Race 1. The Porsche GT3 Cup car was great, the Yokohama tires are great, but I struggled a bit with my line through the Bus Stop. I think we have a really good car and if it keeps raining it’s going to be a pretty exciting race here at Watkins Glen. I’m glad to be here and looking forward to tomorrow’s race.”

On his first time at Watkins Glen International – “My first time at Watkins Glen is pretty awesome! I didn’t expect it to be in the rain but it’s pretty fun in the rain. It’s a great circuit. There’s a lot of rhythm required to race this track and it takes a few laps to get your momentum going and build from that. It’s pretty special to be here for Porsche’s 100th race in the Series. Porsche has an amazing record here at Watkins Glen, so it’s a perfect place to celebrate the 100th race in the IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge.”

On his US-based competitors – “The US Series competitors are a little tougher than the Canadian Series and they drive a little harder, and they race you harder too. We’ll see how it goes in Race 1 with a bit bigger field than I’ve been racing against in Canada. There are a lot of fast drivers at the front, so it should be exciting.”

David Ostella and the SpeedMerchants take the track for Race 1 tomorrow, June 29 at 1:05 p.m. ET as part of the GRAND-AM weekend.
