Ostella Ends Sebring Weekend Early
David Ostella took a wide turn that ended his run at the 62nd Annual Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring Fueled by Fresh From Florida at Sebring International Raceway.
Ostella was able to walk away from the incident in Turn 17 unharmed, but as he noted the Dash Neighborhoods/Phillips 66 car was far from repairable-even with eight hours left in the endurance event.
The accident occurred as Ostella exited out of the bumpy Turn 17. The slick corner caused him problems when he spun earlier in his stint. Taking the corner wide placed Ostella on top of dusty rubber. The debris caused loss of traction and with his wide exit Ostella was sent into the wall.
The damage done to both the nose and rear of the No. 38 ORECA FLM09 machine was deemed irreparable by the team.
“It wasn’t the Sebring 12-hour race we were looking for,” Ostella said. “I got a little wide and then got into the marbles that sent me right in to the wall. I’m OK, the car not so much. I know the guys will get on it, I know they will. It’s just about putting this one behind us and looking ahead to the next one.”
Ostella along with teammates Raphael Matos and Charlie Shears spent most of the week on top of the PC field in practice and remained pleased with the car during the first part of the race. With confidence in Performance Tech, Ostella knows his team will have an equally equipped machine for its next race at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.
