On Point: Ostella Hopes for Perfection to Extend Points Lead

Posted on: August 7th, 2013 | No Comments

David Ostella will focus on extending his points lead in the series championship in Trois Rivières this weekend for Rounds 7 and 8 of the Ultra 94 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Canada by Michelin. The 21-year-old leads the Porsche single-make series by a scant seven points after posting a pair of second-place finishes at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in mid-July.

Trois Rivières is a 10-turn street circuit located in Quebec, Canada. Being that the circuit is not permanent the course has had a few face-lifts over the years, including a minor extension in 1973 making the track it’s current 1.5-mile (2.5-kilometer) length. The race itself has much history; the first Grand Prix de Trois Rivières was held in 1967 and has helped develop racing greats like Gilles Villeneuve and Indianapolis 500 winner Tony Kanaan.

The SpeedMerchants Motorsports driver has developed some of his own driving skills on the storied circuit having raced the circuit in 2011 with Star Mazda and 2012 with Indy Lights. This will be his first time on the course with his No. 13 Global Precast Porsche GT3 Cup 911.

“I really like this track because it’s a street circuit,” Ostella expressed. “There’s no making mistakes at this course. There are no run offs, no grass and the pressure is on to run perfect laps. I love that you have to run it perfectly.

“Having been here before will help because we won’t get much time on track before qualifications, same as in Indy Lights. I’m in it for the championship. I’ll be focusing on staying ahead of Chris [Green] and running smoothly. I want to race clean and take care of the car.”

The race weekend begins Friday August 8 with a practice session at 2:10 p.m. ET. Race One will begin at 2:15 p.m. E.T on the following Saturday. For fans interested in meeting David Ostella, the Ultra 94 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Canada by Michelin autograph session will take place at 11 a.m. ET. Saturday.

“It’s a small place with crazy fans,” Ostella said. “They love to cheer on their Canadian drivers and hype us up. I love the atmosphere and can’t wait to get there.”
